Privacy
What microgolf stores about you, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 10 October 2026.
In short
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics. We sell nothing and share nothing for marketing.
- You can play as a guest. Then we store a random ID and your round, and no name.
- An account stores your username, your email and what you do in the game. Your username is public: in a day’s top 10 and on maps you share.
- You can delete your account yourself, at any time, in Settings.
Who is responsible
Daniel Bersenkowitsch, Linz, Austria, runs microgolf and decides how your data is used (the “controller” under the GDPR). Reach us at support@microgolf.io. There is no data protection officer; the law doesn’t ask for one for a project of this size.
What we store and why
Visiting the site
When your browser loads a page, our hosting provider processes your IP address, the page you asked for, the time and your browser type. It needs them to deliver the site and to fend off attacks. Error logs with these details are kept for at most 7 days.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a site that works and stays safe (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Limits against abuse
We count how often an IP address calls the game’s server within a minute or a day, for example to sign in, save a map or send a report. The counter and the IP address are deleted after at most 24 hours.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping bots out (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Playing as a guest
A random ID in a cookie and, with it, your daily round: every shot, your strokes and your times. No name and no email. Your round is ranked with everyone else’s and shows as “Guest”. Clear the cookie and nothing links the round to you any more. If you create an account in the same browser, the round moves to it.
Legal basis: providing the game you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Your account
Your username, your email address, your password (stored only as a hash we can’t read), a profile photo if you add one, and when you joined and last changed your username. We use your email to sign you in, to send codes and password resets, and to answer you. We never send advertising. Your photo shows on your profile and next to your posts; anyone who has the address of the image file can load it.
Legal basis: the agreement you enter by creating an account (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Playing with an account
Your daily rounds (every shot, your strokes and times), your rank, your streak and your statistics. A day’s results show everyone the top 10 with usernames and scores. Your own rank, streak and history are shown only to you.
Legal basis: the agreement you enter by creating an account (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Maps
The maps you build (name, layout and par), the maps you save, and how often a shared map was played. A map you share can be seen and played, with your username and badges on it, by anyone who has its link. A map you don’t share is visible only to you.
Legal basis: the agreement you enter by creating an account (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Greenkeepers (beta testers)
Your application with your old Microgolf Masters username (only we see it), what you post on the Course Board including images and videos, your votes, and your reviews of maps and physics. Other Greenkeepers and we see your posts with your username, photo and badges. We email you when you’re accepted.
Legal basis: the agreement you enter by joining the program (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Surveys
Your answers, saved with your username. Only we see them. Answering is always optional.
Legal basis: your consent, given by sending your answers (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Write to us to withdraw it and we delete them.
Problem reports
Your message, the page you were on, where you were in the game, your screen size and browser type, and your account or guest ID. The report also reaches us by email.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in finding and fixing problems (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Email to us
When you write to support@microgolf.io, we get your address and what you wrote, and keep the conversation for as long as the matter needs.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
We make no automated decisions about you and build no profile of you.
Who helps us run microgolf
These companies process data for us, on our instructions and only to provide their service. Nobody else gets your data, unless a law forces us to hand it over.
Cloudflare, Inc. (USA)
Delivers the site, runs our server code and forwards mail sent to support@microgolf.io. It sees your IP address and your requests.
Supabase Pte. Ltd. (Singapore)
Our database, the sign-in service and the storage for photos, images and videos. The data is kept in Frankfurt, Germany.
Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA)
Sends our emails: sign-in codes, password resets and Greenkeeper notices. It sees your email address and the message.
Upstash, Inc. (USA)
Keeps the request counters against abuse, with your IP address, for at most 24 hours. The data is kept in Frankfurt, Germany.
These companies are based outside the EU, so data can reach the USA or Singapore, for example when their staff give support. Cloudflare and Resend are certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. For Supabase and Upstash, the EU’s standard contractual clauses in their data processing agreements protect the transfer. Write to us for a copy.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything tied to it: until you delete the account. Deleting it in Settings removes, right away, your profile and photo, your maps, rounds, statistics and saved maps, your Greenkeeper application, posts, attachments, votes and reviews, your badges and your survey answers.
- What stays after that: copies other players made of a map you shared, without your name, and problem reports you sent, no longer linked to you.
- Guest rounds: kept with the day’s results. They carry no name, only the random ID from your cookie.
- Problem reports and emails: until the matter is closed and we no longer need them to check the fix. Ask us and we delete yours sooner.
- Error logs: at most 7 days. Request counters: at most 24 hours.
Your rights
You can ask us, free of charge, to
- tell you what we store about you and give you a copy,
- correct what is wrong,
- delete your data or restrict its use,
- hand you your data in a common file format,
- stop using data that we process on the basis of a legitimate interest,
- delete what you gave with your consent, such as survey answers.
Write to support@microgolf.io. We answer within one month. Your username, email, password and photo you can change yourself in Settings.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at) or to the authority where you live.
What you have to give us
Nothing, to play as a guest. An account needs a username, an email address and a password; without them we can’t create it. Everything else is optional: a photo, maps, posts, surveys and reports.
Young players
Accounts are for players aged 14 and older. Younger players can play as guests. If we learn that a child under 14 has an account, we delete it. Parents can write to us at any time. See the Terms.
Discord and other sites
Our links to Discord and other sites only take you there. Nothing from them is built into microgolf, so they learn nothing about you until you follow a link. From then on their own privacy rules apply.
Changes
When the way we handle data changes, we update this page and its date. If a change matters for your account, we also tell you in the game or by email.
